Bather Facing Away, May/June 1964, by Clifford Hall. Oil on canvas, 32″ x 28″. Private Collection.
This painting appears to have gained the title “Bather Facing Away” when it was sold at auction 2012. The artist’s notes make it clear that he called it “The Seated Bather”. The 2012 auction also misidentified it as an acrylic on canvas painting, which cannot possibly be correct because Clifford Hall did not start using acrylic paints until 1966.
It is evident that this painting was exhibited at two London galleries during the mid 60s, the Savage gallery and the Mercury gallery.
