Jack Neave at the Chat Noir Cafe by Clifford Hall. Private collection.
This is a poor quality photograph that doesn’t really do this portrait painting justice, but I don’t have a better one at the moment.
The artist painted it in 1961, partly from memory and using some old drawings he had done of Neave circa 1932-33, after he heard that Jack Neave (aka Iron Foot Jack ‘King of the Bohemians’) had passed away. The Chat Noir cafe in Soho was a favourite haunt of Jack’s in the 1930s. There is a bio page for Iron Foot Jack on wikipedia and this portrait is mentioned on it. If you are the current owner of this painting I would very much like to hear from you.
