Dancer Resting,1959, by Clifford Hall

Oil on canvas, 30” x 20″. AKA “The Boy Dancer”.

This 1959 oil painting is based on another painting the artist did 20 years earlier of the ballet dancer Alexis Rassine (1919-1992). I’m not sure that this work should be considered a portrait of Rassine however, as Clifford has used the dancer more as a model than as the subject for this picture and does not appear to have endeavoured to achieve a close likeness to Rassine in the treatment of the face.
